On 13th and 14th January 2026, Pwani Ecosystem Conservancies Foundation (PECFO) was privileged to participate in a two-day training workshop on Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs), organized by Nature Kenya in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Conservancies Association (KWCA). The workshop brought together regional conservancy associations and conservancy representatives

The workshop offered valuable insights into what KBAs are, including an overview of the KBA standards, criteria, and thresholds, as well as basic KBA monitoring protocols.

PECFO had the opportunity to present an overview of coastal landscape biodiversity conservation and highlighted the Key Biodiversity Areas within the region.

As a conservancies landscape association, we are grateful to have joined this important conversation and to be part of the collective effort towards effective biodiversity conservation and ensuring that KBAs continue to thrive for present and future generations.
