In our journey towards equitable and inclusive governance, PECFO recognises that young people have often been underrepresented in key conservation decision-making spaces. As a landscape association, we are embracing the Site Assessment for Governance and Equity (SAGE) tool to strengthen inclusive governance structures and ensure that diverse voices, including youth, are meaningfully represented.
At the just-concluded PECFO 2nd AGM, held on 6th August in Kilifi County, youth were not just present but they were actively participating and contributing to decisions shaping the future of community-led conservation. Notably, 6 out of 15 member conservancies were represented by youth, demonstrating a growing commitment to youth leadership and participation.
This is a step towards ensuring that young people are represented, heard, and empowered to influence decisions that affect their communities, livelihoods, and the future of conservation.
